Robert Downey Jr. voices Iron Man videogame

Friday, March 21st, 2008

All three actors will reprise their onscreen roles of Tony Stark (Downey), Lt. Col. James “Rhodey” Rhodes (Howard), and Yinsen (Toub). The Iron Man video game launches day and date with the movie on May 2, 2008.

Iron Man is the story of Tony Stark, a billionaire industrialist and inventor who had it all. But during a routine weapons test in the Middle East, Stark was captured and forced to construct the ultimate weapon. Instead of following his captors’ demands, Tony built his own devastating weapon ? a powerful suit of armour that provided the key to his heroic escape. From this point forward, Tony Stark became more than a man. He became Iron Man.

Iron Man will be available for the Xbox 360, Wii, PLAYSTATION 3, the PlayStation 2, Nintendo DS, PSP and PC.]]>

‘Iron Man’ Star Robert Downey Jr. Talks About ‘Incredible Hulk’ Cameo, Controversial ‘Tropic Thunder’ Pics

Tuesday, March 18th, 2008

The May 2 release of “Iron Man” will most certainly give us one of 2008’s biggest hits, and three months later, we’ll see Downey again, in Ben Stiller’s “Apocalypse Now”-meets-”Ocean’s Eleven” comedy “Tropic Thunder.” The disparate movies make for a unique situation, as Downey admits that the recent controversy over some photos of his “Tropic Thunder” character in blackface have clashed with his “Iron Man” good will to create, well, a Stark contrast.

In a candid conversation, Downey addressed the lovers and the haters while revealing the retooling of a key “Iron Man” scene, a big cameo during the end credits and details of the “Incredible Hulk” scene that will soon tie the two comic-book worlds together.

MTV: Robert, we were all so psyched when you were cast as Tony Stark, one of Marvel’s more complex heroes. What was the most difficult facet of his personality for you to capture, and how did you do it?

Robert Downey Jr.: It’s the fact that, at a certain point, he stops living under this veil of self-importance and disregard for moral psychology, and he decides to do something. And that’s what I usually hate about these movies - when suddenly the guy that you were digging turns into Dudley Do-Right, and then you’re supposed to buy into all his “Let’s go do some good!,” that Eliot-Ness-in-a-cape-type thing. What was really important to me was to not have him change so much that he’s unrecognizable. When someone used to be a schmuck and they’re not anymore, hopefully they still have a sense of humor. ]]>

Robert Downey Jr. Thanks His Wife

Monday, March 17th, 2008

“I really want to thank Susan Downey,” he tells OK!. “We’re married and all that stuff.”

The 42-year-old star tied the knot with Susan, a film producer whom he met on the set of 2003’s Gothika, in 2005. Susan says “there can only be one rock star in a relationship,” that person being herself, a statement Robert wholeheartedly agrees with. Without her, it seems, he would be at a complete loss.

“That behind every great man ? and I mean, as far as like whatever great ? there’s a woman with her hand in his back pocket patting his ass and her arm up his back telling his mouth what to do,” he says.

Robert, who had diligently cleaned up his troubled ways for his wife, can next be seen in the superhero flick Iron Man with Gwyneth Paltrow.]]>

Robert Downey Jr. tries new role as superhero

Thursday, March 13th, 2008

While his films — most recently “Charlie Bartlett” and “Zodiac” — haven’t always found large audiences, the May 2 Paramount Pictures release “Iron Man” promises to connect Downey with the masses.

Downey, 42, recently chatted about comic-book movies, working out and action figures.

THE HOLLYWOOD REPORTER: WHEN YOU THINK OF ROBERT DOWNEY JR.

THE ACTOR, “ACTION HERO” ISN’T THE FIRST THING THAT COMES TO

MIND. WHAT DREW YOU TO “IRON MAN?”

Robert Downey Jr.: (Jon) Favreau was directing it. And when I went (to the Marvel headquarters) to meet with … all the bigwigs there, I walked down the halls and saw certain of my peers in all these big, crazy, cool posters and stuff, and I’m like, “This has got to be fun.” Plus, no one who was in a really successful superhero franchise has ever said to me, “Boy, I really wish I hadn’t done that.”

THE HOLLYWOOD REPORTER: WHAT KIND OF PHYSICAL TRAINING PROCESS DID YOU HAVE TO GO THROUGH TO PLAY TONY STARK (THE

BRILLIANT INVENTORS WHOSE SUIT OF ARMOR MAKES HIM INVINCIBLE)?

Downey: My job was just to get in shape like I was in my mid-20s, which was kind of hilarious and also pretty effective. I’ve done martial arts for years, so I knew I could get in shape without injuring myself. The point of the story is that (Stark) puts on a suit, and this suit gives him this power that he didn’t have access to before, so I didn’t want to get all huge. But I also didn’t want to look like a schlub. So I worked my ass off, and then the three or four days where I was supposed to look like I was in shape, I pretty much ended up looking that way. It was probably 1,500 hours of effort for 11 seconds of screen time.

THE HOLLYWOOD REPORTER: HAVE YOU SEEN YOUR “IRON MAN”

ACTION FIGURE YET?

Downey: I have. It looks pretty good. We actually had an “Iron Man” mask on top of our Christmas tree this year. I’m not worshiping false idols — it was almost more like the reason we were having a good Christmas. He was kind of like the patron saint of there being big boxes under the tree. For reasons that shouldn’t be too difficult to calculate, I’m incredibly grateful to have the opportunities that I do. It doesn’t take much for me to be stoked.]]>
