Robert Downey Jr. Is EW’s Top Entertainer Of The Year
Friday, November 14th, 2008“Iron Man” star Robert Downey Jr. tops Entertainment Weekly’s 25 Entertainers of the Year 2008. The movie star has beaten comedienne and writer Tina Fey in the annual list.
According to the EW, Downey Jr. has topped the list because of a series of clever choices he made. After his rehab and jail stints years ago, the actor has finally pulled himself together and establish himself as a movie star.
First is the top grossing superhero flick, “Iron Man,” then he followed that one with a comedy with Ben Stiller and Jack Black in “Tropic Thunder,” which also became a box office hit. Next stop for this once troubled actor is the already Oscar-buzzed film “The Soloist” with Jamie Foxx and “Sherlock Holmes” from Guy Ritchie.
On the second spot is ubiquitous Fey, who has been a TV fixture recently with her Sarah Palin impersonation. As per the website, she has embodied that “all-too-rare brainy/funny/sexy trifecta” since hosting “Saturday Night Live’s” Weekend Update segment.
Also making the list are U.K. band Coldplay and singer Leona Lewis, and “Gossip Girls” Leighton Meester and Blake Lively.

Robert Downey Jr’s tricky toilet
Monday, November 10th, 2008Robert Downey Jr. says using the toilet was his hardest ‘Iron Man’ stunt.
The actor says the bulky costume he had to wear for his title role in the superhero film made going to the bathroom incredibly difficult.
He told DVD and Blu-ray Review magazine: “It’s not always easy to pee when you’re in that suit. In fact, my visiting the bathroom was probably the greatest stunt in the entire film!”
Meanwhile, the ‘Tropic Thunder’ star has expressed his regret at Terrence Howard being dropped from the ‘Iron Man’ sequel.
The actor has been replaced as Tony Stark’s best friend Jim Rhodes by Don Cheadle in the forthcoming follow-up, but Robert insists he had nothing to do with the decision.
He told MTV: “I had nothing to do with that decision. I love Terrence very very much. That’s all I’ll say because I haven’t talked to him yet.
“It’s one of those situations where I still don’t quite know what happened or why. Here’s what happens too; things happen and you wind up commenting on them before you’ve actually talked to the people and it’s in poor taste.”
Robert Downey Jr. Broke Silence Over Rhodey’s Actors Swap in ‘Iron Man 2′
Thursday, November 6th, 2008While many people involved in the production of “Iron Man 2″ remain mum on the sudden replacement of Terrence Howard with Don Cheadle, Robert Downey Jr. apparently has something to be said on the buzzed-about topic. Playing it coy about his reaction to the replacement, the 43-year-old insisted to MTV News, “I had nothing to do with that decision.”
“I love Terrence very very much. That’s all I’ll say because I haven’t talked to him yet,” Downey Jr. further added. Making sure that he doesn’t play favorites between the two actors, the “Charlie Bartlett” actor also praised Cheadle saying, “I’ve always admired Don [Cheadle].”
Meanwhile on the swap issue itself, he commented, “It’s one of those situations where I still don’t quite know what happened or why. Here’s what happens too: things happen and you wind up commenting on them before you’ve actually talked to the people and it’s in poor taste.”
On his priority on the “Iron Man” sequel, he revealed, “I think the important thing with the ‘Iron Man’ franchise is to not do too much too soon and to make sure we don’t piss off the public that put us in the position we’re in. We’ve just got to keep rolling up our sleeves higher and further up the elbow.”
In late October, the replacement of Terrence Howard, the actor who plays Lt. Col James Rhodes in “Iron Man”, by his “Crash” co-star, Don Cheadle, in “Iron Man 2″ has been confirmed. Though it was not explained why Howard’s role is given to Cheadle, many suggested that the recasting may be grounded from the financial differences. Nonetheless, “Iron Man 2″ will still be penned by “Tropic Thunder” co-scribbler Justin Theroux and is scheduled to be released on May 7, 2010.

Central role fits Downey Jr like a glove
Monday, November 3rd, 2008IRON Man (Cert 12, 121 mins, Paramount Home Entertainment, Action/Comedy/Romance, also available to buy DVD £19.99/two-disc DVD £24.99/Blu-ray £29.99) Starring: Robert Downey Jr, Gwyneth Paltrow, Jeff Bridges, Terrence Howard, Shaun Toub, Faran Tahir.
Inventor and consummate playboy Tony Stark (Downey Jr) is CEO of global weapons manufacturing business Stark Industries.
During a demonstration of the devastating Jericho missile close to Bagram air base in Afghanistan, insurgents capture Tony and compel him to build another Jericho missile, this time to engage American forces.
Instead, Tony orchestrates a daring escape with fellow prisoner of war Yinsen (Toub), wearing a crude, yet ultra-strong, suit of armour.
Found wandering the desert by his good friend, Lieutenant Colonel James “Rhodey” Rhodes (Howard), Tony returns home a changed man and announces the immediate shutdown of the weapons manufacturing arm of Stark Industries.
Unfortunately, members of the board including Obadiah Stane (Bridges) have other ideas and freeze Tony out. He is soon fighting for control of his own company, aided by feisty assistant Virginia “Pepper” Potts (Paltrow).
Iron Man is terrifically entertaining, fuelled by Jon Favreau’s kinetic direction, strong performances and some thrilling action sequences.
The central role of the billionaire industrialist, whose conscience is pricked after a brush with death, fits Downey Jr like a titanium-plated glove. (more…)
