Robert Downey Jr. will be singing for his supper.

The actor is attached to star in a musical pitch that Warner Bros. just picked up from Brian Yorkey and Tom Kitt, the Pulitzer and Tony Award-winning composing team behind the musical “Next to Normal.”

Downey will also produce with Susan Downey via their Team Downey banner.

The story centers on two Broadway songwriters who find themselves creatively and financially bankrupt when their big-break musical flops. Searching for inspiration, they take jobs as counselors at the theater camp they attended as kids and hatch a plan for a big comeback. [READ THE REST HERE]

People have Robert on their site as one of the sexiest men alive. I added the picture to the gallery and this is what they say about him:

“Robert has a way of making everyone around him feel very special and comfortable,” Michelle Monaghan, his costar in Due Date, raves about the 44-year-old. “Whenever I see him, I walk away smiling. Those beautiful brown eyes may have something to do with it.”

Robert Downey Jr. Exits Gravity

Though Sandra Bullock is still negotiating to come aboard Alfonso Cuaron’s space-set drama Gravity, Robert Downey Jr. has expelled himself from the film’s orbit; Warner Bros will recast his character, who only appears in the film for the first act. Meanwhile, Downey Jr. is circling the project How to Talk to Girls, based on the advice book by precocious nine-year-old Alec Greven. THR reports that “the project is being reconceived and developed as a Downey vehicle”; hopefully no grade schoolers will be aged up in the process. [SOURCE]

Robert Downey Jr. Exiting ‘Gravity?’

October 25, 2010 | posted by Hayley | with No Comments | in Movies, News

“I’m hearing scheduling problems have made Robert Downey Jr. suddenly doubtful for Gravity, the Alfonso Cuaron-directed Warner Bros space film that weathered a bunch of setbacks before finding its footing when it landed Sandra Bullock for the lead female role. Now, Warner Bros is denying Downey will exit, despite what I’m hearing. [READ THE REST AT DEADLINE.COM]“

Robert Downey Jr. to Possibly Star in EMERGENCY

October 20, 2010 | posted by Hayley | with No Comments | in News

Columbia Pictures has optioned the rights for the non-fiction book Emergency!: This Book Will Save Your Life by Neil Strauss to be developed into a feature film produced by Robert Downey Jr., Susan Downey, and Michael DeLuca, it was announced today by Doug Belgrad and Matt Tolmach, presidents of Columbia Pictures. The project is being considered as a possible starring vehicle for Downey. Allan Loeb (Wall Street 2, Dilemma) is writing the screenplay.

Emergency traces one man’s story of a dangerous world–and how to stay alive in it or die trying. It is Strauss’s white-knuckled journey through a country that’s lost its sense of safety, as one man equips himself with the tools necessary to save himself and his loved ones from an uncertain future. He sets out to move his life offshore, and in the process, he learns to survive in the wild, and remake himself as a gun-toting, lock-picking, plane-flying, government-defying survivor. It’s a tale of paranoid fantasies and crippling doubts, of shady lawyers and dangerous cult leaders, of billionaire gun nuts and survivalist superheroes, of weirdoes, heroes, and ordinary citizens taking their families off the grid.

Tolmach said, “Neil Strauss is a tremendous talent and we think Emergency! is his best work yet. It’s a hugely entertaining read that couldn’t be more timely or topical. We think there is a fantastic film in this book and Robert and Susan, and of course, Mike are the perfect producers to take on the themes of this project.”

De Luca added, “The book is a study in male panic and since I specialized in that throughout the 90’s I felt a true kinship with the material.”

David Gambino will oversee the project for Team Downey. Josh Bratman will develop the project along with De Luca and Tolmach and Andrea Giannetti will oversee the title on behalf of Columbia Pictures. [SOURCE]
