Robert Downey Jr. To Play Hugh Hefner In New Biopic?

May 13, 2010 | posted by Hayley | with No Comments | in Articles, News

Robert Downey Jr. has met with Hugh Hefner to discuss playing him in a movie about his life.

Brett Ratner is directing the biopic about the Playboy mogul and decided Downey Jr. would be a good choice to portray Hefner. He arranged for Downey Jr. to see Hefner and has revealed the meeting was a huge success. The pair met again at a premiere for Iron Man 2 last month and Hefner was overheard telling Downey Jr. he is his first choice for the project.

“I called Robert and we went to see him and sat down with him,” Ratner told E! Online. “I think with the right script, Robert would do it. He would be great.”

Ratner is now keen to move ahead with the film but is having trouble deciding what to include in the script because 84-year-old Hefner has had such an exciting life.

Rather than trying to cover everything, it is believed the biopic will focus on the time when Hefner began building up his Playboy empire and the impact it had on the sexual revolution in the 70s.

“It’s taken me three years just to get something that I think I can actually turn into a movie,” Ratner explained. “We’re working on it. It’s just so hard because Hugh Hefner’s life – how do you put it into two hours?” [SOURCE]

Robert Downey Jr. hints Iron Man 3 in pipeline

Hollywood star Robert Downey Jr. has revealed that there will be a third Iron Man movie.

Downey Jr. returns to the role of Tony Stark in the second instalment of the movie, two years after finding huge success with the character and despite the second movie having only just been released Friday, he admits that a third movie is already in the pipeline but only after The Avengers movie, reports celebrifi.com.

“I think it’s [Iron Man] going to go down. [The Avengers is] supposedly first on [Marvel Entertainment's] docket. I have some pretty strong ideas, but they never seem to be too discordant with what the creative executives at Marvel are thinking anyway,” he said.

“It’s all there. There’s a little bit of a bunch of different storylines from different decades [in the comics],” he added.

“Iron Man” was a surprise success two years ago, being one of the lesser known Marvel characters, as it broke through $100 million in the opening weekend in America. [SOURCE]

Sherlock Holmes 2 to visit Paris, Switzerland

Hollywood actor Robert Downey Jr says the upcoming sequel to Sherlock Holmes will improve on the original’s formula by setting it outside England.

Following the success of the film, there has been no doubt that there will be follow up to the 2009 film.

“Yes, I think we’ll be abroad,” he told MTV Movie News when asked whether there are plans to take Holmes’ show on the road.

Downey Jr then added, “A bit of Paris, a bit of Switzerland by the end, if I’m not mistaken.” The actor playing the British detective also affirmed that he will reprise his role in the sequel, saying “I’m going to do Sherlock 2; it was one of my favourite experiences to date.”

However, he is not sure if Rachel McAdams’ Irene Adler will also return to the second installment.”It’s hard to say. Because Irene Adler only appeared in one of the stories of Doyle’s reservoir of activities. But we’ll find out quickly,” he said.

About the possibility of making it into 3-D movie, Downey Jr said, “It’s hard to say.”

“Certainly, if you don’t do it as an option, then you don’t have that option. If the last six months have shown anything, it’s that audiences like options, and they will take advantage of them. And you’re leaving a bunch of dough on the table if you don’t shoot something in 3-D,” the actor said.

But the 45-year-old actor promised Sherlock Holmes 2 will improve on the original’s formula.

“There’s always (room for improvement); as a matter of fact, that’s the great thing about seeing a film in success,” he claimed.

“With Sherlock, we both had success and the audience responded to it, and we  saw room for improvement.”

Sherlock Holmes follows the adventure of Arthur Conan Doyle’s most famous character and his partner Dr John Watson in their adventure to bring down a new nemesis. The film earned more than $200 million in total.
