Robert Downey’s parasite diet

December 3, 2009 | posted by Hayley | with No Comments | in Uncategorized

Robert Downey Jr. got in shape because he got sick.

The 44-year-old actor has had to get fit for his action-packed roles in ‘Iron Man 2′ and ‘Sherlock Holmes’ and although he has been exercising regularly an illness he picked up in Japan kick-started his weight loss.

He is quoted as saying: “I was in Japan promoting ‘Iron Man’, and I went to a restaurant where I contracted a parasite and got really sick for three days.

“I started losing weight and thought to myself, ‘Hey this is a nice jump-start!’ It just gave me a nice little head-start with the first five pounds and then I kept going until I was thin, I felt as though I may float away.”

Robert insists it’s important for him to be in prime condition for the roles because he has been asking the directors of both movies – Guy Ritchie on ‘Sherlock Holmes’ and Jon Favreau who is helming ‘Iron Man 2′ – to increase his stunt duties.

He said: “The action’s certainly got bigger on ‘Iron Man 2′ that’s because I went to do ‘Sherlock Holmes’, which was a real adventure.

“So coming back to ‘Iron Man 2′ I really challenged our stunt team to get our hands a little more dirty because I was still kind of into that… I love it so much.

“There is no better day that I can have than one where I beat people up or get thrown around. I just love it.” [Source]

Send to a friend AddThis Robert Downey Jr’s Guy Praise

Robert Downey Jr. says Guy Ritchie is a “really smart bad-a*s”.

The actor praised the director for his confident approach to working on ‘Sherlock Holmes’, in which the ‘Iron Man’ star plays the titular fictional detective and says he always felt comfortable working with the filmmaker.

He said: “We’re in the hands of a really smart bad-a*s. The best word to describe Guy is ‘confident’. Confident in a way that you can’t pretend to be, because you only see it in the moment when it’s crunch time.”

Meanwhile, Guy says he decided to take on the project because he wanted to create an “intellectual action hero” that was radically different to his previous work.

He told Britain’s FHM magazine: “I’d been offered all sorts of other big studio films over the last ten, 12 years and none of them really appealed. Mostly because I thought I couldn’t do much with them. But I fancied this for all sorts of reasons. One is that I wanted to try something that’s completely different from anything I’ve done before. Another is that it’s a big studio movie and although, to a degree, it’s still in my genre, it’s a period piece, and it’s a stylish piece. But most of all I liked the idea of an intellectual superhero. An intellectual action hero, actually. [Source]

Downey Jr reworking ‘Iron Man 2′ script

November 28, 2009 | posted by Hayley | with No Comments | in Uncategorized

Robert Downey Jr is so determined for Iron Man 2 to be a success that he is apparently helping to rewrite its script.

The 44-year-old actor plays industrialist Tony Stark and his metal-suited alter ego in the original blockbuster, which has made more than £366 million worldwide since its 2008 release.

Director Jon Favreau described Downey Jr as a “real partner” in an interview with Empire. “He’s been very involved in the screenplay. When he went away to do Sherlock Holmes he was still part of our creative process,” he said.

“Even in the first film, where he was originally a hired gun playing the role, he really stepped up to rewrite scenes – he’s a great writer, too. So we really are sharing the responsibilities.”

Downey Jr said that producers have resisted the urge to “skate through a sequel”.

“We are grinding our minds and hearts in the ground on this movie,” he said.

Gwyneth Paltrow, Scarlett Johansson, Mickey Rourke and Samuel L. Jackson co-star in the film, which is scheduled to be released next year. [Source]

Sherlock holmes gave downey, jr. a taste for thrills

ROBERT DOWNEY, JR. is demanding more stunts in the IRON MAN sequel – after developing a love for high-octane fight scenes while filming SHERLOCK HOLMES.

The actor was whipped into shape to play the supersleuth in director Guy Ritchie’s action-packed re-telling – and he wanted to bring some of that same intensity to his second portrayal of comic book hero Iron Man.

Downey, Jr. tells Britain’s Empire magazine, “The action’s certainly got bigger (in Iron Man 2). But I went and did Sherlock Holmes, which was a real balls-to-the-wall, get-your-fists-grazed adventure. Coming back into this I really challenged our stunt team to get our hands dirty a little more, because I was still kind of into that. I love it so much! There is no better day that I can have than one where I beat people up or get thrown around. I just love it. It’s supposed to be safe, but it’s a little more than acting, so it’s really fun.” [Source]
