As the first project for the husband and wife production team of Robert Downey Jr. and Susan Downey, the duo will produce Yucatan, a heist film that the late actor Steve McQueen originally worked on, reports entertainment news website Deadline Hollywood.
Based on 1,700 pages of unearthed notes and storyboards assembled by McQueen, the story is set in Mexico’s Yucatan peninsula, where a team of thieves seek to find ancient buried treasure. Downey is expected to star in the film.
McQueen’s son Chad will executive produce. McG (Terminator Salvation) who previously was attached to the project back in 2007 may also be part of the production team.
Downey will be seen next in Due Date, a comedy by director Todd Phillips (The Hangover) with Zach Galifianakis and Jamie Foxx. He is set to shoot Gravity in 3D directed by Alfonso Cuaron (Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkaban), Guy Ritchie’s Sherlock Holmes sequel, and The Avengers as Iron Man/Tony Stark.
Also on his full schedule is Poe and Oz: The Great and Powerful, a prequel to the 1939 classic Wizard of Oz focused on the wizard, which Sam Raimi (the Spider-Man franchise) will direct; it was just announced that he passed on directing the next Spider-Man. [SOURCE]
