Fresh from the New Mexico set of The Avengers, Robert Downey Jr. made a surprise appearance alongside director Jon Favreau at the Hero Complex Film Festival in Hollywood on Sunday. In full Tony Stark beard, hair and swagger, the actor, of course, spoke about the two films that were screening, Iron Man and Iron Man 2, but also the on-the-horizon third film, Iron Man 3, which will be helmed by director Shane Black.
Favreau and Downey talked about how the former Iron Man director will be helping the upcoming Iron Man director as well as some of the greatest difficulties, both serious and not, in creating the May 3, 2013 film. Check out what they had to say, and also read what Downey had to say about the first six weeks of shooting The Avengers, after the jump.
The Iron Man 3 talk got started when a fan asked if Downey could talk about Shane Black, who Downey previously worked with on Kiss Kiss Bang Bang. I’ll just run the transcript then extrapolate after. Continue Reading

The 25th American Cinematheque Award will be presented to two-time Academy Award® nominee Robert Downey, Jr. at the Cinematheque’s annual benefit gala, American Cinematheque Board chairman Rick Nicita announced today. The presentation takes place Friday, October 14, 2011 at the Beverly Hilton Hotel’s International Ballroom in Beverly Hills.
“The American Cinematheque is extremely pleased to honor Robert Downey, Jr. as the 25th recipient of the American Cinematheque award at our celebration this year,” said Rick Nicita. “The pleasure that we receive from his charismatic and nuanced performances is matched only by the respect that he has earned for his personal and professional journey. The wide range of his talent has kept us enthralled in movies from a biopic like “Chaplin” to outrageous comedies like “Tropic Thunder” to franchises like “Sherlock Holmes” and, of course, “Iron Man.” While we have been enjoying him for years, it seems that he’s just getting started all over again. The Cinematheque is thrilled to mark this milestone in the flourishing career of Robert Downey, Jr.”
Downey was the unanimous choice of the Cinematheque Board of Directors selection committee, which since 1986, has annually honored an extraordinary artist (actor, director or writer) in the entertainment industry, who is fully engaged in his or her work and is committed to making a significant contribution to the art of the motion picture. The actor once again looks back on getting the role of Bruce Banner in the upcoming superhero epic and comments on working with Joss Whedon and Robert Downey Jr. ..
To the confusion and disappointment of many, Robert Downey Jr.’s Tony Stark was simply made a consultant rather than an actual member of The Avengers at the end of Iron Man 2. Well, for anyone still doubting that we won’t see the actor kicking ass as the armored Avenger in the upcoming movie, the new Bruce Banner, Mark Rufallo, has made it clear that he has a big part to play in the movie.
He didn’t know that he had landed the part until a car pulled up in front of his door at 4 AM to drive him to the airport to fly to San Diego. If no car came, he would have woken up knowing he didn’t get the role. “I was there for two hours and flew to LA back to NY. Talk about a carbon footprint,” he admitted in a phone interview.
“I’m not used to that sort of thing. I run a small operation. I’m not used to getting a part and having it subjected to that scrutiny and debate. I like to come in the back door and surprise people. There’s so much onus on it. I trust Joss [Whedon]. We talked a lot and to Robert [Downey. Jr.] I trust that we are going to make it good. Robert sets the tone.”
With an all star cast which includes Chris Evans as Captain America, Robert Downey Jr. as Iron Man, Chris Hemsworth as Thor, Mark Rufallo as Bruce Banner, Jeremy Renner as Hawkeye, Scarlett Johansson as Black Widow, Cobie Smulders as Maria Hill, Clark Gregg as Agent Coulson and Samuel L. Jackson as Nick Fury, The Avengers is set to be released on May 4, 2012! (Source)

Robert Downey Jr. is a man who appreciates the finer and more literate things in life. And apparently he finally finished reading Inherent Vice, the novel by Thomas Pynchon about:
“Larry ‘Doc’ Sportello, a private eye based in Los Angeles in the late 1960s. He’s a believer in the psychedelic free-love era, and his case involves an ex-girlfriend, her real estate billionaire boyfriend and a kidnapping.”
